Healthy eating is not enough
Clean eating? Healthy eating?
Yes we all want to eat clean and healthy food. But what does that even mean? And is that enough to be healthy?
Through years of practice and learning, I’ve found that just eating unprocessed, organic foods is simply not enough. The types of food you eat really matter.
Because let me guess - this is what you think eating healthy is:
Eating a big salad for lunch every single day
Avoiding sugar at all cost
No eating after dinnertime
Absolutely no snacking
Drink a gallon of water
The truth is none of those have anything to do with the nourishment of your body.
Becoming very habitual with our food choices, and not asking ourselves how our food is actually making us feel.
How is your energy after each meal? How do you feel after eating certain foods? Do you feel good and warm? Are you enjoying your meals? Do you experience gas, bloating, heartburn?
Here’s how to be more mindful of nutrition and not just “healthy eating”:
-Pay attention to how food makes you feel. Energy level and mood.
-Eat enough protein.
-Definitely eliminate pre-packaged, processed foods.
-Eat produce in season when possible. These foods always have more nutrient density than produce that’s not in season.
-Figure out what you can get locally. Farmers markets in your area?
-Meal prep for easy access to home cooked food.
-Here’s my short list to focus on: pasture raised meats and organs, raw dairy, fruits and roots, good fats like butter and tallow, honey and other bee products like pollen, maple syrup, some fruit juices and coconut water, all sorts of broths.
-Always pair protein with carbs and fats
What are your eating habits?
Stay healthy and nourished,
