Why carbohydrates are not evil

Carbohydrates are given a bad rap.  Mostly because we’re accustomed to lumping all processed junk as carbs.  Well there are carbs and there are carbs.

The right carbs are essential for

✨sustained energy

✨optimal metabolic rate

✨decreased oxidative stress

✨proper thyroid function

✨liver function and liver detox

✨muscle energy and recovery

✨brain power

✨adrenal health

Here is a list of carbs that you should definitely include in your daily intake:

🍊fresh, organic and in season fruit and some unpasteurized fruit juices

🍯raw honey and real maple syrup

🍠organic and in season root veggies

🥛raw milk

All of those have minerals and vitamins, low Glycemic Index levels, they’re simple to digest, nutrient dense and contain no antinutrients.

Things you think of as carbs like bagels and donuts, cupcakes and breads, pasta and processed crackers should be avoided.  They not only have no nutritional value, but also contain antinutrients and are laden with pesticides and enriched with synthetic vitamins and toxic iron.

If you’ve joined the low carb craze, think again.

-Eating low carb forces your body to engage in gluconeogenesis, or eating your own tissues to produce glucose

-Skipping carbs lowers your metabolism and messes up your blood sugar balance leading to fatigue and sugar cravings

-Decreases the proper function of your liver, thyroid and adrenals, which will affect your hormones

If you haven’t eaten carbs for a while, start slowly.  In addition make sure you are ALWAYS pairing carbs with protein and fat.

Stay nourished and healthy,

Kate
