Magnesium troubleshooting
Are you unable to tolerate any magnesium?
This is a classic example of why taking supplements without considering the context of your body can cause more issues. Seemingly taking magnesium should be harmless since at least 80% of Americans suffer deficiency, but the truth is many cannot tolerate Magnesium.
Here’s what can happen.
Let’s start with the easiest explanation of this phenomenon – you could be taking the wrong type of magnesium.
Electrolytes are out of balance. Magnesium antagonizes levels of sodium and potassium, impacting the adrenal function. And so what happens, if your adrenal function is already on the rocks, is that your body will let you know that Magnesium is not welcome, until sodium and potassium are replenished. You see the electrolytes must be in balance. And if they’re not, taking one might cause some unpleasant symptoms, like:
-anxiety
-insomnia
-heart palpitations
-fatigue
-dizziness
You might also be missing some cofactors that are much needed to absorb or get Magnesium into the cells like B vitamins, Boron and bicarbonate.
Here are some solutions to these problems:
-start with adrenal cocktails before you even consider taking Mag
-your first choice should be transdermal - oils, creams, baths or soaks
-start with very small doses of one type of oral mag
-eventually incorporate diversity of different magnesium
-easily absorbed are hydroxide in mag water, malate, glycinate, but also taurate, threonate
And if troubleshooting on your own is too complex and overwhelming, consider running an HTMA. Click here for more info. Test don’t guess.
